Happy birthday SIX year olds!!

Can't believe the boys are six! I tried bribing them to stay five, no such luck. They had quite a day, cake in their class (it was Mrs. Bauer's birthday too), brownies at after school care, ice cream sundaes at Red Robin after dinner and they have more cake tomorrow with grandparents when we go to see "The Lion King" in Lansing.

On their birthday, without warning, Mrs. Bauer told Matthew his project he made that you can see if you page down on the blog was the best in their class. Matthew had to get up in front of the kindergarten, first and second graders and read his project while they showed it on a screen. This is my kid who hid behind the curtain at his school concert!! He did it!!! He told me he was shaking but he got up there and did it all by himself! For a boy who is so shy this is really huge. We are so proud of him.

In the mail on their birthday, among many cards, was a package from Grandma Kris and Papa Mark. The package included really cool fire department baseball caps. There was a navy one marked for Matthew and a red one marked for Jonathan. The boys often have things in red and blue and never has it been a problem. Wellllllll....that day it was. Matthew cried because he wanted red. Jonathan said he would not trade. Matthew cried more. Jonathan said he would give up his red hat. Then, Jonathan cried because Matthew got the red one. Matthew cried again. We called G/G and asked where they got the hats if we could get more and they were from a swap meet in AZ and G/G were on their way to Texas. We looked at the tags on the caps and tried to find them online, no such luck.

I finally went to another fire website and found a hat Jonathan liked and said I would get him one. Matthew wanted another hat too. It's their birthday, I am a sucker, I said ok, told Matthew to pick which one he liked.

Matthew picked a navy hat!!!!!!

Mama can't win!

Sunday is for biking

The boys are going to be very ready for new bikes for their birthday in a couple weeks, bikes with bigger wheels because those legs have to pedal HARD to keep up with Daddy.

Today, they went to Hofma Park and decided they could head to the township fire station from there. They saw an eagle flying over.

From there, why not keep going and head to their school? With a stop at the airport to see a plane landing and more playground time at the school.

We're about to have a good dinner and I bet the boys (and Daddy) will sleep well tonight!

Mom took pity on Hayley and walked her the lap of the neighborhood, there was much sniffing for her to do after a long weekend.

Saturday with Daddy

The boys had a day with Daddy and went to North Shore to go bowling and for a drive out to the north pier. After lunch they checked out the old farm where Grandma K. lived.

The ice is just about gone but it will be a bit before we swim, at last check the water temp is a whopping 33 degrees!

Welcome to the world baby Kellan

The boys are thrilled to have a new baby cousin, Kellan Thomas Jacob G. was born March 5th in Ohio. He is being adopted by my cousin K.C. and her husband and we couldn't be happier for them.

We're so happy we're switching the background for St. Patrick's Day!

We can't wait to meet you Kellan!!

Love and best wishes to K.C. and Sean. He's one beautiful, lucky little boy and we can't WAIT to spoil him.

I had quite a trip down memory lane this afternoon going through the big tub of infant clothes from the boys and picking out some cute things to pass on to Kellan.

The boys are a little worried that Kellan will get all the oreos that Uncle Tom usually gives them, we had quite a discussion at dinner last night about it and I assured them that Kellan won't be in the running for them for at least a year.

Mid-March Michigan moments

It's been slow around here, rainy and cold and anxiously awaiting spring with not many signs of it so far other than the snow is mostly gone finally. Even Hayley is desperate for warm temps and sunbathing.

Matthew got a kick out of the hats and smiley faces they got in a recent package from Papa Mark and Grandma Kris. The boys have been receiving random postcards and packages with fun treasures from them all winter but are really looking forward to the two of them returning from Arizona in mid-April.

We found Jonathan asleep like this the other night, nearly stabbing his head on his nightstand. He was not amused by the flashbulbs waking him up but we had to grab a picture.

Matthew tried on the boys' new Easter and birthday outfits for me tonight, look how handsome he is!

The boys had to do a project for school this week. It was a book the whole school is reading and then write a message you got from it and show a picture of your pet. The book was about a family who adopts a three-legged cat and acceptance of others. You can click on these to see them bigger.

Visting Grammy

We went to visit Grosse Pointe and Grammy last week, all three of the boys had colds so we cut our trip short to keep Grammy from getting sick before she left for Florida.

It was animal rescue night at Joe Louis the night we went to see the Wings play so Hayley got lucky and got a couple of bandanas they were giving out. She sports them proudly now.

The boys decided they are never too old for playing in the bathtub with toys. Grammy helped.

We met up with some longtime, not old, friends each night we were there, lots of fun. No trip home is complete without visits to Coney Island and the Tap Room either.
