Sledding

These aren't the best quality pictures but you get the idea. They have been swinging and then jumping off into the snow in the yard.
Dad decided to take them sledding before hockey this afternoon.

Jonathan in the yellow hat, Matthew in the black Batman hat.
The snow is rapidly melting and the snow gear is SOAKED!

BRING ON SPRING!!!

Valentine's Sugar Rush

It began with the class party on Friday. It's never good to walk into school and see a sugar coated face. His teeth were actually all green too!! His brother's were the same and so were most of their friends.

The boys with their friend Adam.

One of the mom's passing out the candy. The kids had to guess how many kisses were in the jar to win a prize.
The party was a sugar filled crazy hour but it was lots of fun!

Our Valentine breakfast table.

Kisses that were solid chocolate! They gnawed away and then we took them away in favor of a real breakfast.
We had a great day! Visited with the Busse' family and their new little one. The boys had a great time outside in the snow and we had a wonderful special dinner tonight.

Jeff and I stayed up late last night hooked on the Olympics. It's going to be a great couple of weeks of competition if last night is any indication of how it's going to go. Looking forward to quite a few events. Funny to see rain and warmer temps there and so much snow in the southern US states. News today says every state but one (Hawaii) has had measurable snow this winter. We sure haven't had much of our share here!!

Hope you all had a wonderful day too and thank you for all of the cards and gifts you sent the boys. They had great fun opening all of them today.

Comment tips

I need some feedback. What would you like to see here or hear about the boys? Since 90% of my audience is grandparents and family we know anything boy related that I post is well received but it's lonely posting around here with no comments.

At the bottom of each post is a line that says "0 comments" (cause all of mine are zero!!).
Looks like this:
Click on the word comment and it pulls up a box to leave a comment. All you have to do is leave your name and comment and fill in one of those word recognition boxes (which keeps spam out).

Let us know you are out there! We're lonely!!

Trouble in Twin City

I got this email today from the boys' teacher:

FYI...  I kept Matthew in at the last recess  in a time out!  I can hardly believe it but felt like I had to follow thru.  He was being disruptive in the bathroom when we took a break after Art class.  Then as we finished our Writing assessment, he did not follow directions. He was over goofing off by Jonathan, who was still writing. Maybe it's the excitement of Valentines Day coming up!

I called home after school and had a chat with Matthew and explained that we were not happy. He burst into tears and admitted he had been "barking" in the bathroom because it echoes and it makes his friends laugh.  He and his buddies were then trying to steal Jonathan's pencil eraser from him and in the struggle Matthew got in trouble and Jonathan lost his eraser to the teacher.

After homework he was told to write a note to Mrs. S. and apologize.

I don't suppose there is any hope they will be on good behavior during their school party tomorrow? They were not happy to remember that I am one of the mothers in charge of it and that they could, and would, promptly find themselves sitting in the hall during the party if this continued.

They did go to bed tonight without a peep. We'll see.

Say it isn't so!!

If you know ANYTHING about our boys it is that they are freaks about the Coast Guard helicopter, or as it is fondly referred to at our house, BIG RED!

The boys manage to work that helicopter into just about every story they write in school. It graces every picture they draw. They LOVE that darn helicopter.

Every day we spend at the beach they are combing the skies and have developed an eagle eye and bionic hearing for the locating the red bird on the horizon and then yell, scream, wave and jump up and down as it flies over. People within a 2 mile radius can hear them and they have scared more than a few sunbathers who were relaxing in the glow of the warm sun with their yells.

Today the alarming news was announced that our beloved helicopter may be cut because of budget cuts. We are in mourning.

The bad news is here. click.

Happy birthday Daddy!

We celebrated #36 tonight for Jeff since I have to work tomorrow. The plan was to take him out for dinner but the snow is falling so we grilled steaks, twice baked potatoes and had chocolate cake BEFORE dinner!

I think Daddy was wishing for a nice quiet birthday, snow day may cancel that and give him a lot more company than he was hoping for.

More snow

We can't even compete with the east coast. As a matter of fact, this winter has been downright sleepy when it comes to snowfall totals but it's snowing now and we hope for more overnight. The boys are keeping fingers crossed for a snow day tomorrow. I wish 9-1-1 had snow days!

Matthew's plane

Matthew has been really creative with his legos lately and made a cool plane we had to share. The boys say it is really a "switch wing".

What really gets me is the oh so natural smile Matthew has perfected and insists on sporting every time I take a picture. Too funny!!

A Real Stitch

So the boys decided sledding down an outside staircase on the snow was a good idea last week. It didn't work out so well and we quickly found ourselves in the ER with Jonathan who had a good cut to the forehead.

Five stitches outside and a few inside.

It was quite the drama, blood and gore. It was not a pretty evening in our house.

Yesterday, he got the stitches out. That was easy.

He had a "tummy ache" at school yesterday and I got called to pick him up. Within an hour of coming home he was miraculously cured and wanted McDonald's for lunch. I debated dropping him right back at school but decided I don't get to spend much time with him alone and they had a sub and were playing games in the afternoon anyway so we went off to run some errands.
At Meijers we nearly got run over by a lady who backed out of her space without looking. No apology, nothing from her. I had Jonathan with me or I would have had some seriously choice words for the woman.

We shopped and this was a different Meijer store than the usual one we go to and I had trouble finding some things and even more trouble with the stupid self checkout. I was crabby and annoyed by the time we walked outside.

The sun was shining and as Jonathan danced across the parking lot with the receipt in hand (the boys collect them for some odd reason) he said, "I love the sound of a receipt flapping in the wind!".

I smiled the rest of the day, some things are just not worth being upset over when the sun is shining and you have a little hand in yours, time with a little boy who should have been in school, and the sweet sound of happiness.  Thank you Jonathan.
