Grand Haven Airport 60th Anniversary Pancake Breakfast and what a ride!!

This morning we decided to go see the fly in and have breakfast there for Father's Day. Little did we know they were offering plane rides and Papa Mark sent the boys and their Dad up into the wild blue yonder for a ride around Grand Haven. They were very excited until the pilot had to get out to check the plane, there was a problem with a guage of some sort and while they had time to think about it they got scared and started to cry. I wasn't so thrilled either since my entire family was going up in the plane!

We got the all clear and the boys hopped back in and buckled up. We didn't think that we should have gotten them their booster seats so they could have seen better but they did ok. Jeff says there was a lot of chatter between them pointing out the shore, their school, the beach, the pier, the drawbridge, their favorite fire station and all. They LOVED the ride!!

You could see how dark the Grand River is as it flowed into the lake, we have had so much rain and flooding from storms this week and the river is really high and rising. It is supposed to continue for a few more days. I got called into work Friday night, they were really busy with calls from Holland area residents who were totally flooded out and many roads washed out. It's been a rough spring so we are happy to welcome summer today.




















Now, the boys are off on a camping trip with Grandma and Papa and will be gone for two nights in Muskegon, minus coming home for t-ball tomorrow and pending any thunderstorms. Don't fear for the little darlings, they aren't exactly roughing it, they're camping in this:

We're looking forward to the Newmans arriving this week, they are taking the boys to a family reunion at Crystal Mountain next weekend and we have more friends coming for the 4th of July! Good times ahead!!

Pool boys

This is Jonathan and Matthew at age 5 months old in the pool.

We spent a beautiful Saturday afternoon in the pool with a few pirate adventures in between lunch and swims. Later, we had Papa, Grandma Kris, and Papa Pete over for a Father's Day dinner.

T-ball season

We are the Celtics in purple, all the t-ball teams are named after NBA teams for some reason.

It has been very entertaining to watch the antics each game and we have had good family representation in the stands to watch games. Jeff is helping coach their team and is doing a great job as 3rd base coach.

We have had regular hits and not many outs and played most of the positions after the first few games.

The best highlight was Jonathan being on 2nd base and forgot where he was when his teammate hit and Jonathan ran to catch the ball and quickly threw it to first! Both Jeff and the other coach agreed they weren't sure if Jonathan should be out so he stayed on 2nd and played on!

Adventures with Grandma Cindy and Papa Terry

The boys spent a busy two days with Cindy and Terry. Day 1 they went to the Grand Rapids Children's Museum and checked out all the displays. The boys love the giant bubble maker and had fun building all kinds of things with Papa Terry.

Day 2 they drove to the playground next to our old house and rode scooters and played until they rode bikes from there along the bike path to McDonald's for lunch. They needed some practice with their new big bikes and these grandparents are just the ones for it!

Grandma and Papa got to see a t-ball game, catch up with old friends whose daughter was the coach of the opposing team. We also had quite the thunderstorm that night and the boys were already sleeping downstairs with Grandma and Papa but moved from the playroom to Jeff's office and under his desk and then into the closet in his office trying to block out the thunder and lightning. They are still terrified of storms and we have been having lots of them. Never a dull moment! They also fit in some hoops and scooter time and some slip and slide adventures. Sorry, the pictures are a bit scrambled in order but I have lots of updates to post so I will keep going.

Hockey!!

We had a bit of a battle this year. Jeff, Jonathan and I are diehard Red Wings fans, that's no secret to anyone. Matthew decided mid-season that he was a Penguins fan. It's mostly my fault, penguins are my favorite animal and we have all kinds of penguins animals and things in our house. Matthew knows little about the Pittsburgh team other than that the coach is from Grand Haven so he can't be all bad, can he?

We didn't think the Wings would end up playing the Pens in the finals again. It became a problem as Matthew kept rooting for darn Penguins and Grammy didn't help things by buying him a penguins shirt at the zoo. Grandma Cindy sent us gummy penguins from Trader Joe's (which are DELICIOUS, by the way!) and we enthusiastically bit their heads off during games but the Wings wore down and went to game 7.

That final game was tense, to say the least, Matthew was gloating as the Pens were up 2-0 in the 2nd. Jeff and I got mad at him and his feelings were hurt. He left the room and we later found him sound asleep in his bed.

Pittsburgh prevailed and we felt bad so we ordered Matthew a Stanley Cup champions Pittsburgh ballcap. It hasn't arrived yet but I'm sure he will be wearing it proudly all summer. Rumor has it that the Cup will be in the big Coast Guard parade here this summer and we will all be happy to see Lord Stanley's Cup in our town but we won't discuss which team we love more in this house.

Cousin Ian's Graduation

Jonathan, Matthew and Jeff went to Battle Creek to see family for cousin Ian's high school graduation party. Lots of family there to play with and swim with.
